Service Charge Summit 2016
20th Sep 2016
The courts have found something service charge-related for everyone in the past twelve months: the consequences of the Court of Appeal’s judgment in the Moorjani disrepair case are likely to be felt by landlords in the First-tier Tribunal; in Cain it became clear that prompt action to dispute a service charge is important to avoid any suggestion of an admission of liability to pay; the Upper Tribunal’s decision inHemmise examined the circumstances which justify the re-opening of issues which appear to have already been definitively determined, and we were treated to an exposition of VAT law in Ingram.
At the time of writing, we await the Upper Tribunal’s decisions in the rule 13 costs appeals.
New this year, and reflecting the scope of Tanfield’s indispensable textbook, “Service Charges and Management: Law and Practice”, this year the Summit will encompass issues arising between landlords and Right to Manage companies, examining the interaction between the right to manage and rights of ownership.
Combining enthusiasm for their subject with depth of knowledge, Tanfield’s barristers are highly regarded in the marketplace for their service charge expertise.
Tanfield appears in both Chambers & Partners and the Legal 500 directories for its property litigation work. Many of the speakers at the Summit are individually recommended in those directories, and bring expertise from other areas of property law to their service charge practice. They will be available throughout the day and look forward to meeting you.
The Summit combines full conference sessions with smaller, interactive seminars where specific problems and questions on a given topic are explored.
The Summit provides an unrivalled opportunity to hear from and meet barristers who are experts in service charge law.
