Friends in Law in Action
04/05/2010
Tanfield Chambers continued its successful pro bono strategy on 4th May 2010 when Amanda Gourlay obtained a pro bono costs order for nearly £1,250 in the Chichester County Court.
Pro bono costs orders are provided for by section 194 of the Legal Services Act 2007, and allow the winning party (represented pro bono) to apply for a costs order in favour of the Access to Justice Foundation, an umbrella charity which furthers access to justice via various bodies, including the Bar Pro Bono Unit, right across the country.
Tanfield, having recently joined the Bar Pro Bono Unit’s Friends in Law Scheme, is pleased to have been able to use its expertise to promote wider access to justice in line with its corporate social responsibility policy.
