Paul is currently a senior advisory lawyer supporting the national and corporate institutions of the Church of England, including the Church Commissioners, the General Synod, the Archbishops of Canterbury and York in their corporate capacities, the Archbishops' Council, the Church Pensions Board and their respective boards, councils and committees. This work cuts across property law, public and administrative law, employment law, company law and corporate governance and charity law.

Prior to this, Paul's private practice crossed all aspects of dispute resolution in property, commercial and employment law, particularly areas of practice which dovetail with the organisation of enterprise, such as partnership law and company law. Paul was frequently instructed to advise, draft documents (pleadings and transactional) and to appear in hearings, tribunals and trials. Paul also had a well-developed arbitral practice, appearing in "ad hoc" and rule-based arbitrations.

Paul had a niche practice in the law of art and cultural property and heritage, including the law of conversion, trespass to goods, the law of salvage and finds and the recovery and insurance of specie. He has acted for gold and silver smiths, artists and insurers and has spoken frequently on subjects including the interpretation of consignment agreements, exclusion clauses in art contracts, the law of auction sales and the law of underwater cultural heritage.

Paul is a senior school governor, company director and trustee and has a strong interest in corporate governance principles.
