Profile
Andrew Thompson specialises in all aspects of employment law, including contracts of employment, wrongful and unfair dismissal, equal opportunities, restrictive covenants, transfers of undertakings, business reorganisations (including handling mass redundancies), and EU law relating to employment matters.
In education law, he has extensive experience of advising and representing trustees and governors of schools, parents and local education authorities on a wide range of topics, in particular admissions to schools, transport policies, property matters affecting voluntary-aided schools, special educational needs, the powers of governors and employment matters affecting teachers.
He accepts direct access instructions.

Employment
Andrew Thompson has represented both individual and corporate clients, and trade unions, in employment tribunals, the Employment Appeal Tribunal, and all civil courts up to and including the House of Lords. He has worked on a wide variety of cases, from unfair dismissal and construction of contracts to sex and race discrimination, TUPE, restrictive covenants, redundancies, business reorganisations, and aspects of trade union law.
Education
In the field of education law, he has appeared in the High Court, Administrative Court, Court of Appeal and House of Lords in cases concerning School Appeal Services, home to school transport, school admissions, the reorganisation of schools, the power to dismiss governors, governors’ duties regarding admissions policies in voluntary aided schools, and the duties of Local Education Authorities in compiling and implementing schools admissions policies.
